Car of the Month - March 2006
Amanda McRee's 1978 2+2 Rallye

This is a 1978 Mustang II fastback. It has been completely restored.

This is one of a limited number of Mustang II fastbacks with the Rallye Package. It came with several options, front and rear bumper guards, rear spoiler, front valance, in dash clock, map swivel light over head. The insides have the gold teraine cloth and vinyl seats. It has a 5.0 liter engine, factory rear sway bars, 8 inch positive traction rear end and the signature Johnny Palyer pin stripe in gold.

When this car was bought it was sent from dealership for undercoating and still has all undercoating plugs. It has 83,000 original miles. When sanding was done on this car it was rust free. The engine has never been torn into, also has original 4 speed Borg Warner transmission.

I have started taking it to car shows since completed and has doing very well. I would like to find out how many of these 78’s with these options are left out there in good shape.

I took me 2 years to talk the owner out of this car. It was all original, nothing had been taken off the car, not even the engine. The pin stripe kit that was the original kit was put back on the car was bought in 1982 from Ford Motor.
