My car does not have the hood scoop on it. I have it painted and ready to install. My car is a 78, 2+2. Is it most correct to have the opening or tall end toward the front or rear of the car? How far from the edge of the hood (wiper end) is the scoop mounted. Looks to be (as a guess) about 1 1/2- 2 inches??

My 76 has a rear facing 78 Cobra scoop... 2.5 inches from the very bottom of the scoop to the edge of the hood.

1976-77 Cobra II's had the scoop facing forward. 1977 1/2-78 Cobra II's, and King Cobras, had it facing backwards. I've seen many scoops turned the opposite direction from which they were produced, it's all a matter of preference.

If your car still has the correct '78 hood on it, there is a specific place in the hood to drill the holes closest to the cowl. It's hard to see, but look closely in this photo:

The holes for the original hood scoop are still present, in a flat, round area that cuts into the hood support structure. The '78 hood was modified from the '75-77 version to allow for this.

off topic... Nice wheels, Im running the same. What spacers are you using and what size tires are you running?

Sean, I've got 1/4" spacers up front with a bit of grinding on the inside lip of the wheels themselves, running 225/60R15 tires. Back ones fit with no spacers running 235/50R15 tires.
I'm in the middle of changing everything over to 5 lug with different wheels. Anyone who wants a set of "modified" turbines can pick them up for cheap in Portland, OR.
