Hi, this is crazy, but it seemed like a good place to start. I am hoping to find my first car, a 74 Mustang II Mach 1. I always called it yellow/gold, but I guess it's probably Medium Goldenrod. I was the second owner from 87 to about 93, when I sold it to a family in Zillah, WA. They bought it for thier daughter to drive to college. I would love to get my hands on this car again. I never should have sold it. I'm a mustang nut, and I've had many mustangs since, but it's the one I wish I'd kept most of all.
I got the VIN from my insurance company, and they gave me the VIN. The VIN decoder says the engine code is incorrect. I suppose the car is probably in a junkyard by now, because not a lot of people love Mustang IIs, but I would sure like to find it again, no matter what shape it's in. If anyone has any suggestions for me, I'd sure appreciate it.

i know where zilla is its in the yakima lower vally i now most of the yards in that vally i grew up in the don douglas yard quinten runs it now it was on the donald brige...enyways. see if the insurence com. has the lic plate # the licence department can use that to see the curent location/owners or if it has been turned in to the yards just in case have the vin to verify its the right one they should be able to tell you who was the last/curent owner and the last time it was licenced/on the road..i hope this helps..
i wish i knew that years ago i sold my first car a 69merc.montego mx 351w. i regreted selling it and started looking around could not find it... 4 year later i started a second job at poor boys yard my second week there i was told to put a junk motor on the car in the crusher to add waight to it i did as i was told and there was my montego abought 3-4feet tall i know it was mine i had a taz sticker on the gas tank door and it was light met. green with primer/rust spots..

Ouch! Dude, that's some story - I'd hate to see that!
Yup, I lived in Yakima after college, and that's when I sold the Mustang. As a poor post-college person, I didn't have the money to fix it up, and I was sick of being teased about it all the time. Now I could do all the work myself, and I miss the little pinto-bean (that's what my dad called it).
I live in Battle Ground, WA now, on the other side of the mountains.

The 3717 has no significance, it's just my assigned number in the Airstream Club. We get together and campout, it's pretty fun. Airstreams are cool, I just wish I could pull it with a Mustang, but I've got a Ford Van for that!

Thanks! That's such a flashback just to see one like it! I've only ever seen one other one in that color. After I sold mine I ran into the new owners at the gas station one day, and they said their daughter hated it because everywhere she went people recognized the car and told her Mom where she'd been. She couldn't sneak around at all!

I got the VIN from the ebay guy. It's not mine :( and interestingly enough, when I put it in the VIN decoder it's not even a Mach I. Good luck getting $6k for a broken MII fastback - talk about high expectations! However, the engine code is correct, so I fixed my VIN. Looks like the insurance people someone along the line replaced a Z with a 2. So now I know my correct VIN. I'll keep looking...

The vin # will not tell if its a Mach,Cobra, or a King Cobra. The only way to tell if you have a Cobra or a King Cobra is to look at the buck tag.(The tag on the rad support). The drivers door data tag will tell if its a mach. Here are the codes for the models on the door tag.
2 door hard top - 60F 3 door Hatch - 69F 2 door hard top Ghia -60H 3 door hatch Mach 1 - 69R
As you can see Ford did not use a specific body code for Cobra's and King Cobra's,but the Mach got its own. Ask the seller for the body code of the drivers door to find out what it is.

O5 in the vin tells its that it is a mach1. The cobraII and king cobra didn't have a code signed to it in the vin. CobraII and king cobra you had to see the body tag. The door tag didn't really tell you can figure alittle bit by the color. The title can tell you if is is or not. Here in Iowa the model says O3*2 for my 76 cobraII have seen this on other cobraII's that are titled in Iowa.

The insurance says they don't have the lic. plat #, but the girl was kind of new. I thought I might try again next week when the regular lady is in back the office. I would think they could do something with the VIN. Because of privacy issues that won't tell me anything so far.

I took the VIN down to the local auto licensing office. This is why I love living in a small town - I told the lady what was up and she said she couldn't give me any details, but she would look it up. Not only is the car still in WA, but it has current tags! WOW! I thought I was going to start crying, I was so happy to hear that! I thought for sure it was torn apart in a yard somewhere!
She gave me a number for Public Disclosure, but she said she doesn't think they'll give me any info about it, because of privacy laws, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
