This is my 1977 Cobra II. I am the second owner, as my mom was the original one. She bought it new in 1977 when I was 17. I asked her to get a 4 speed V8, but she declined. She insisted on an automatic. I still won the engine battle, as it was purchased with the 302 powerplant. The only other options on the car were different factory wheels and an AM/FM Ford stereo.
I drove the car, then my younger sister, then my younger brother. It was garage kept, but did see some snow and ice from Pennsylvania winters. It was bumped one in the front by a city truck with my mom driving, but other than that, it remained accident free.
After all of us kids were gone and my mom got older, the car just sat in her garage. One day she asked if I wanted the car. She told me it would not start, but that if I could start it, I could have it. No problem. All it needed was a battery, fuel pump, tune up, and a barb. It fired right up, and I drove it to my house, and gave it a spot in my garage.
It now has 67,000 miles on it. The engine has never been apart. The transmission was rebuilt about 16 years ago. I had a friend buff the car out and repaint in spots where some rust was coming through. I detailed the engine compartment myself. The car gets looks and comments whenever I drive it, and always brings back fond memories of a time when I was younger. My mom still enjoys seeing it. I now find out she was pulled over several times for speeding back in the day. Wonder why she never told her teenage son that?
