1978 MUSTANG II
IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mustang II, Ford Division's "get-away-from-it-all" car for 1978, is offered in a variety of sporty hardtop and three-door fastback models designed for car-buyers seeking individuality and styling flair.
Mustang II's four basic models -- hardtop, Ghia, 2+2 and Mach 1 -- are continued in the 1978-model year with a number of new options and styling features introduced during the closing months of the previous model year.
A T-roof convertible with removable glass panels enters its first full model year as a sporty option on 2+2 and Mach 1 models.
Ford's popular Cobra II enters 1978 with new tri-color stripes and sporty blackout quarter- and rear-window louvers.
In addition, a new Fashion Accessory Package designed especially for women will be introduced on the Mustang II hardtop this year. Offered in nine exterior colors, the Fashion Accessory Package includes colorfully striped Fresno cloth seat inserts, a driver-side illuminated sun-visor mirror, a four-way adjustable driver's seat, a coin tray, map pockets, an illuminated entry system and exterior paint stripes.
All 1978 model Mustang II's have seperate rear-seat cushions that replace the full-width seat cushions offered in past years. A new biscuit-pattern door and seat trim, 18-ounce cut-pile carpeting and an optional Wilshire cloth trim also have been added to the Mustang II Ghia's long list of luxury features.
A new tangerine interior color, two vinyl roof colors and six exterior paints were added late in the 1977 model year will be continued this year.
          Mustang II's standard powertrain is Ford's 2.3-liter engine teamed with a four-speed fully synchronized transmission. A 2.8-liter V-6, a 5.0-liter (302-CID) V-8 and a Select-Shift automatic transmission are optional.
Standard engineering and design features include electronic ignition, front disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering and turn-signal-mounted wiper/washer controls. A full instrumentation package, including tachometer and anmeter, temperature and fuel gauges, also is standard.
In addition to air conditioning, power front disc brakes and variable-ratio power rack-and-pinion steering, Mustang II also offers a long list of comfort, convenience and appearance options.
Six audio systems are available -- AM radio, AM with eight-track tape player, AM/FM monaural, AM/FM stereo with eight-track tape player and a new AM/FM radio with cassette tape player.
Simulated wire wheel covers in addition to five optional wheels also are offered.
