Mustang II
Mustang II is more special than ever.
|
The stylish hardtop and three-door fastback Mustang IIs still give you that tingling road experience that makes this car the standard for fun driving
But in 1978, for added pleasure, there are three new Mustang II packages to choose from; the macho King Cobra, the woman-oriented Fashion Accessory Package and the money-saving Special Value Edition.
But first, the "basic" Mustang II. The hardtop is the standard series from which the elegant Ghia model is derived; the 2+2 three-door fastback is the basic body style for the Cobra II, Mach 1 and King Cobra series.
The Hardtop, Ghia, 2+2 and Cobra II are powered by the standard 2.3-litre 2V overhead cam four-cylinder engine with four-speed floor-mounted transmission.
Mach 1 has a 2.8-litre 2V V-6 engine and King Cobra an 5.0-litre (302 CID) 2V V-8. These larger engines are available as options throughout the Mustang line, as are the innovative variable-ratio power steering, air conditioning and many other performance and appearance options.
All Mustang IIs have a suggested retail price lower than that of comparable 1977 models. But buying a Special Edition Hardtop or 2+2 can save you additional money because several highly popular options have been reduced in price. This discount is based on a comparison of sticker prices of options seperately and as a package.
These new Special Value cars come with Tu-Tone paint treatment, AM/FM monaural radio, dual sport mirrors, wire wheel covers, dual paint stripes, deluxe seat belts - plus your choice of either vinyl or sporty cloth interior. These desirable features come at a discount. And buyers of two-door Hardtops can add a flip-up open aire roof and get a greater discount.
Special Value Edition Mustang IIs enjoy, of course, the many items that are standard on all Mustang IIs, like electronic ignition, front disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, rear stabilizer bar, tachometer and fuel/anmeter/temperature gauges.
Mustang IIs popularity among women means women owners deserve some better ideas designed just for them. Ford has come up with those ideas and put them in the Fashion Accessory Package.
Outside, this package includes bodyside pinstripes, bright door edge guards, license plate frames and some special color choices. It's the interior, though, that really tells the fashion story; an illuminated mirror on the visor, special floor mats, convenient pockets on door panels and an enlarged parking brake boot with a coin tray.
The driver's seat is four-way manual, and all seats can be decked out with chic Fresno body-cloth inserts in jewel-like colors. Also, there is an innovative illuminated entry system.
Topping off the Mustang II line is the manly King Cobra series. The King's outstanding features, in addition to the V-8 engine, include sporty tape and pinstriping treatment, front hood scoop and rear decklid spoiler, front air dam, zingy snake decal, bold black grille, heavy-duty springs and adjustable shock absorbers. When the King rolls, heads turn!
And of course King Cobra and other members of Mustang II's three-door fastbacks have something extra going for them - the optional T-Roof Convertible with twin smoke-glass roof panels that are easily removed and stored ina dual-compartment vinyl case that comes with the T-Roof option.
Mustang II has always meant action. This year, you get more action for your money than ever before.
