II TO GO !

by T. Thomas
According to the advertisements we're being bombarded with today, the Ford Motor Company is letting us know that there is a Ford in our future. Greg Monoz from Brooklyn (Michigan that is) would seem to have known that fact a long time ago. His affinity and familiarity with FoMoCo products might also have something to do with the fact that he is employed by Ford.
Greg's future with his lil' Mustang II started three years ago with visions of blowers dancing around in his head. From checking out the photos of his car, it would be fair to say that his visions have materialized into everything he was hoping for!
The basis for this good looker is a '77 Mustang II hatchback model. These particular Mustangs were always sleek and swoopy, but the powerplants that were available from the factory did little, if anything, to bolster the performance image. This obviously was changed by Greg, as the dual four barreled, supercharged mill attests to.
The 302 has been bored .030" oversize with TRW slugs filling the void. The stock connecting rods have been upgraded via the use of SPS bolts and nuts. Crane takes care of the valve actuation chores in the ported and milled cylinder heads. The blower is a Dyers unit and receives the fuel from a brace of Holley 600's mounted to an Offy 360 dual port intake. A Mallory dual point keeps the fires burning and a hi-volume TRW oil pump keeps the lube circulating. The supercharged hot bed is cooled off by flicking on teh Hayden electric fan.
Monroe shocks up front and Gabriels out back keep this 'Stang from getting a bad case of the jitters. Out back, Greg saw fit to install an 8" posi unit set up with 3.55 gears to be compatible with the supercharged mill. Whre the rubber meets the road, you'll find a trusty set of BF Goodrich skins taking care of business.
Tranferring the 'hoss' power is a B&M equipped C-6 tranny. The stall speed is dialed in at 3500 rpm and an Integrity oil cooler helps the heat find its way out.
With the help of good buddy Joe Szymborski, two years' time and 5 G's of the long green, Greg definately has a Ford for now... and undoubtedly one in his future.
