Great service too! I pulled my shipping instructions off the net, and shipped it out UPS. When they received my dash they called me to let me know thet received it and to go over the order. I was impressed. Processing time took 8 weeks to get through the line of orders. But when it was done they called me again to let me know it was going out, to verify my address and let me know when to expect it! Total cost including shipping both ways $340. Worth it? I'd say yes. I've already spent $300 trying to find a good used one. The last two I've bought have lasted a week and a day respectively before cracking. The results were great, but I wouldn't call it concours; we'd have to check with Gary Baum. I put the the finished product besiden another cracked one I own and made the following observations: 1. The vinyl pattern matches perfectly. 2. The recovering process gave the dash pad a very slight bloated look. The process of replacing the foam layer under the vinyl slightly removed the sharp lines of the original dash; the arch over the dash bezel as well as the crease on the passenger side. I don't think it would show in photo's and unless you had one to do a side by side comparison I don't think anyone else would notice. I suppose it's possible that new the dashes looked like this and over time the factory foam layer shrunk, enhancing the lines. If you can save your pennies it's definately worth considering. I have fresh vinyl that should last me another 20 years of harsh sun! ===== Dave Wilson Cobra_2_76@yahoo.com My Cobra II, hosted by Dan Polk http://mustangii.org/old.mustangii.org/dano/miiMy home page is : http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/7500/index.html alt mail: Dwilson@ftmc.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Darren can't tell you for sure the parts needed for the swap itself, but for the driveshaft I just had one shortened here for my II and it cost me 60.00 for everything including the rebalance. Another close friend of mine had one made, new tube and his old yokes for 80.00. So wouldn't think it would be to bad to have one modified or made from scratch, long as you have the proper yokes for your application....Good Luck. Having changed rearend ratio's to a 3:55, and installed a 302 and C4 trans into the lil coupe the 80mph speedometer is now way off. I understand that changing the driven gear on the cable should be the solution however, having changed from the original 17 tooth gear to a 19 tooth gear didn't do much so I took the plunge and bought the 21 tooth gear and only dropped about 5 mph.. running about 85 mph at 65 mph... Ok now that you have the background here is my question. Is the 140mph speedometer that came with the V8's geared different internally compared to the 80mph speedo?.. I guess I know the answer should be yes since it's needle should move slower in relation to the size of the face. I'm just wondering if swapping out the speedometer would get me closer to a functioning speedometer. I do understand that tires play a big role in this also. Right now money is tight and the plan for 15inch tires is looking pretty far off. It rain miserably on an off, so that I managed to wash my car three times before the blue sky came out. Saturday was participant vote for the top 20. I missed the trophy presentations so I'm not quite sure if they were ranked or just top 20. I'll explain in a few minutes. I met up with Mark and Alba about 11:30 and we hit the stands to watch the drag racing. Then about 1:30 I hear over the PA, "Will David Wilson, entry 21, report to his car immediately!" Mark and I looked at each other and it was like... what now, did I get hit, vandalized? We quickly got back to the car, walked around it everything was OK and no one was around! We stood around a few minutes and this guy walks up and introduces himself as Francis Butler, photographer for Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and he whated to do a photo shoot for one of the magazines and was I intersted. Now I can't imagine he's ever been turned down and I wasn't about to be the first! Mark and I left Alba to relax in my recliner and we were off to where he told us to go. Said he would run over to his rental car an meet us there. We went to the return lane of track down by the county airport. After waiting what seemed like 20 minutes but was probably 10 I was wondering if someone had pulled one over on us. Some smart elic making a fool of a Mustang II owner...As we headed back, here he came and we turned around and headed back. Poor guy had to deal with the patched clouds and you could tell he was having a hard time figuring out how to deal with the changing light. But, and I'm sure Mark can provide a more graphic description of the photo shoot than I can, as the shock was starting to settle in and I also had to move the car this direction and that, turn the wheel here and there. Then he said my job was going to be harder than his while he handed me this three page spec sheet that even had fields to fill in the flow capacity of the cylinder heads! Anyway we got to the point of the engine compartment and needed to do a carburation strip tease. First off came the shaker, leaving the air cleaner. Then he wanted the air filter off, but since I use a bolt to clear the shaker flapper door we couldn't get it off. So he asked us to go back and while he was covering on of the "heads up" classes we could procure a wrench and get it off. We got that done and then the awards presentation started. So Mark eagerly volunteered to cover for me while I waited. Mark and Alba ran over and later Mark came strolling back with this 3 foot trohpy and this "shit eating" grin on his face. (Sorry Mark that's the best description I could think of!) The show participants had voted the Cobra as one of the Top 20. Mark and I were confused a little since it also says first place on the trophie. We're not sure if all of the top 20 said this or not. I'll just have to wait for the show to be published in Mustang Illustrated I guess. Giving my wife Regina and my kids tons of credit, they created another Fun Ford Weekend smorgasboard. I grilled the bratwurst and hot dogs and we had a great time. Mark and I talked about the odd's of the photo shoot getting rejected by the editor, after all Francis Butler was a freelance photographer and if they don't like his work they can reject it. Not many magazines put Mustang II's in anywhere but the gallerys. By the way Mark, when he said he got here Tuesday and we wondered what would draw him to Norwalk three days before the action started, he laughed and said he had spent the three previous days in Cleveland, not in senic Norwalk! After the party broke up I filled in what I could and printed out the narrative file I put together for Dan Polk's page as well as the Header Panel Modification page and the Disk Brake Conversion FAQ Frank has on his page. That was much easier than filling out that spec sheet. Now this morning it was again pouring down rain until about 9:30. I got to the track and got settled in and spent an hour cleaning off the grit and mud. Francis Butler stopped by and we got the carb shots and gave him the packet of information I put together Saturday night and talked a little before he was off again. I did hear someone else paged to the show site like I was, probably scared hit too! I hit the stands to watch the heads up racing till the second day awards, which were voted on by numerous groups of automotive dignataries like the track officials, Ford representatives, sponsors, and Mustang Illustrated editor (hint). Now I do read Mustang Illustrated and did know that the Mustang Illustrated magazine issues the "Editors Choice Award" and the receipant receives a Feature write up in the Magazine. GUESS WHAT MARK, I WON IT, EDITORS CHOICE AWARD!!!! MY COBRA II IN A FEATURE ARTICLE IN MUSTANG ILLUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!! Makes me wonder what Francis knew and wasn't telling us. When I find out when it's coming out you can be sure my keyboard will be smoking! Now for a shower.................... ===== Dave Wilson Cobra_2_76@yahoo.com My home page is : http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/7500/index.html alternate mail address: Dwilson@ftmc.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I want to get another nose because it weighs about 30lbs to 50lbs less than the metal fenders and hood, plus i liked the way it looked on my car. the problem is i bought the original front end at a swap meet and i don't know where to find it new. Subject: Hidden treasures Just thought I would give the entire list a little update. I just spent a week at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village Research Center and was amazed at the wealth of information on the Mustang II. I actually ended up with over 400 pages of information, most of it was information that never made it to the public including Ford to Dealer memos, Specification sheets, testing results and some press photos. I will be adding most of the information to the site to share it with the Mustang II population. Some of it you may find boring and some of it may be very interesting. Most likely, I will be putting it on the site according to years under the tech section. Some of it will go into the articles area while the year specific information will go into the sections divided by years. I have also ran across a rare photo that I haven't found anywhere else. I'll keep it a secret until I can get it reproduced and scanned into the computer. I hope you will find this information useful. I plan on making it all available but it may take some time. I was telling my five-year-old how cool the museum is just yesterday. (It may have changed some in the thirty years since I was there!) Thanks for your efforts. I look forward to seeing the material.
