SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
-
Show car:
It is recommended that Ford Design Center be requested to produce a dramatic show car approximating the new Mustang for possible introduction at the New York International Automobile Show in April, 1973.
- Confidential Background Briefings:
It is recommended that a series of confidential briefings be conducted for editorial and advertising representatives of national publications and radio-television networks during the first quarter of 1973, and that dramatic staging effects be devised for "live reveal" of the new Mustang at the conclusion of such briefings.
-
Notchback or Fastback:
It is recommended that in most early publicity applications where a choice must be made, the notchback design be favored over the fastback - because of its definite differentiation from the Pinto profile. This would apply, for example, to the suggested design of a show car, and to art offered for possible magazine covers. An exception would be magazines catering primarily to performance-minded car buffs. Here the fastback would be favored.
- Mustang Book:
To reclaim Mustang's birthright as symbol and major force in the youth movement (of whatever age), it is recommended that a book be commissioned on "The Mustang Generation.": To be written by a well-known author, it would take a light-hearted look at a social and automotive phenomenon about to repeat itself in the Seventies. It would be offered to dealers and suppliers, and to the public through the book trade. The author would be available for an extended period for appearances on broadcast media.
- Price: It is recommended that if possible the base price of the 1974 Mustang be kept below that of the comparable 1973 base price. To price it even slightly higher could risk a negative reaction on the part of auto and business-oriented writers. To reduce the car in both size and price would increase chances of an enthusiastic public reception.
