MUSTANG II ready for its market

Mustang II is a sporty "fun" car in a maneuverable subcompact size with a high level of product content. This new concept places Mustang right in the fast growing sport subcompact category. This segment has enjoyed a sales increase of over 300 percent between 1965 and 1972. In 1965 segment sales were 83,000; in 1972, 311,000. Estimated sales for 1973 are 378,000. In many respects, this is a market similar to that captured by the original Mustang.

The "under 35" age bracket is influential in this market. This group encompassed 36.4 percent of all car buyers in the U.S. in 1972. To these youthful buyers, economy of operation, engineering, workmanship, and good value of the money have taken on special importance. Good handling, ease of driving and pleasing design also are as important as they were to buyers of earlier Mustangs.

The new 1974 Mustang II is aimed directly at these requirements. The car offers a readily apparent high perceived value. Its size should be considered especially on-target by youthful buyers; it's narrower, lower and over a foot and half shorter than the '73 versions.

Engineering quality stands out in its ride and handling, lively performance with economical operation, and attention to detail that rivals European automotive craftsmanship. Added to all this is Mustang II's appealing styling in two body types -- a racy-looking fastback with a third door and a more formal-looking notchback.
