Also available as an option with either engine is a SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission with a floor-mounted selector level. It also has a converter housing incorporating the features of multiple reinforcing ribs and high bolt pattern at the engine block. A tuned rubber mount also is used.
Mustang II uses a large single-tube driveshaft, 3-1/2 inches in diameter to provide an extra margin of rigidity to resist driveline vibrations. (Pinto has a 2-3/4 inch diamenter driveshaft.) A liner inside the driveshaft absorbs and reduces noise. Close-piloted rear wheels -- a design which results in precise axle-wheel concentricity -- provides smoothness as well as quiet to the Mustang ride.
