INSTRUMENT PANEL Mustang II's instrument panel is entirely new. The instrument cluster includes two large pods side-by-side above the steering column. The left pod houses the 6,000-rpm tachometer, with a high beam headlight indicator jewel in the bottom part of the face. The right pod houses the speedometer and odometer. Both instrument faces are flat. Turn signal indicator lights are mounted above the pods. To the right of the speedometer is a row of three smaller gauges which indicate fuel quantity, charging system amperes and engine coolant temperature. The gauges are angled toward the driver for easy viewing. Above the gauges are warning lights for brake system failure, loss of oil pressure and unfastened seat belt(s). The headlamp switch and horizontal-lever-operated wiper/washer control are on the left side of the cluster. The heater (or air-conditioning) controls are on the left, radio on the right. The pull-out ashtray is on the lower right edge of the instrument panel below the radio. The instrument cluster is trimmed with a simulated burled walnut woodgrain applique surrounded by a bright thin molding. A matching woodgrain applique also is on the panel's right side. Bright "Mustang II" letters appear on the right applique. The glovebox is on the right and includes a locking twist-type latch. Forced air ventilation is standard, and includes high level adjustable outlets on both sides of the instrument panel. The steering wheel and column ae color-keyed to the interior. GRANDE FEATURES Featuring added luxury equipment, the Grande model continues into 1974. The exterior includes a one-piece vinyl roof with padded applique and a Grande crest on the "C" pillar; BR78 x 13 WSW steel-belted radial-ply tires; dual color-keyed mirrors with remote control for left and right sides; bodyside molding with color-coordinated vinyl inserts; color-coordinated pin striping; and deluxe stainless steel wheel covers with a die-cast center spoke design. |
